Americans Aren’t Having Enough Babies

An estimated 33,000 Americans will lose their jobs as retail giant Toys R Us goes out of business. The even bigger problem that this closure signals is the fact that Americans are not having enough babies to sustain our economy. Toys R Us is a canary in the coal mine, warning of a demographic disaster that is approaching.

If the American people do not love their country enough to make it self-sustaining by reproducing at the very minimum at a replacement level, then some other culture will fill the vacuum. So far, Islamic countries and Mexico are the only ones rushing to fill that void.

According to The Washington Post, the Toys R Us profit margin has been tied to US birth rates for many years. When birth rates were high, Toys R Us’ profits went up. As birth rates have declined to record lows, Toys R Us has fallen off a financial cliff. Because Toys R Us caters specifically to children, it was the first industry to feel the pain of our declining birth rates.

Eventually this trend translates into fewer adults, fewer workers and fewer taxpayers to sustain the American system. Here is just one example: Every public school receives a per-pupil allotment of funds from state and federal governments. A severe drop in enrollment in a local school district can result in a catastrophic reduction in per-pupil funds. That’s coming to your local school district one day!

The postmodern church in America is a contributing factor in this looming catastrophe. As the church has shifted away from a biblical approach to family and childbearing, our nation and culture have suffered for it. In years past, not only was divorce shunned and discouraged by the church, but failure to bear children was also viewed as sinful and harmful to the overall society.

The Puritans, who were the true intellectual and spiritual “Founders” of America, took a wholly different approach to these matters. An account from early American documents reveals that a woman petitioned church elders for a divorce, because her husband refused to carry out his duties in the marriage bed.

Childbearing was a serious matter in the eyes of the church, so the divorce was granted. This effectively allowed the woman to remarry so she could go about her most important duty in God’s eyes: Bearing and rearing children to grow the Kingdom of God. Many modern American churchmen and women would likely brand those words as “hate speech” and declare the pastor a heretic if he were to relate that story on Sunday morning.

The militant Muslim faith understands this dynamic, as the third great wave of Islamic expansion is sweeping over the globe. According to the Brookings Institute, the birth rate among Islamic migrants is often three times higher than the native populations that are blindly welcoming them inside their borders.

Thanks to the open-borders policy implemented by Germany’s Angela Merkel, the Muslim population suddenly outnumbers the Jewish population by 10 to 1 in many European countries. There are reports that some Islamic families are having as many as eight or nine children apiece as they strive to conquer that continent. This will not end well.

The only reason that America’s population continues to expand is because the politicians have thrown our borders wide open to the Third World. Toys R Us is a sign that this strategy of providing cheap, uneducated non-Christian labor will not work in the long-term.

The Communist Chinese government commissioned a study among its top economists in the early 2000s. Their mission was to answer one question: Why has the American economy been so successful for so many decades? The answer shocked the atheist Party leaders in Beijing.

The economists’ conclusion was that the “Protestant work ethic” was what had led to America’s unique long-term prosperity. This should send chills down the spine of every Christian in America as our politicians invite endless hordes of non-Protestants into the country.

The solution to the Toys R Us dilemma is right in front of our faces and in the pages of the Bible. Get married. Have children (plural). Stay married. Train the children up in the way that they should go. Encourage the children to do the same when they are adults. The pro-abortion, anti-marriage, secular culture in America will not solve this problem. The burden is on the church and the church alone.

Consider this question as you drive by a Toys R Us store with a “Going Out of Business” sign in its window. If children are a blessing from the Lord, why is the church in America cursing Him?
