California Bill Could Ban Christian Books, Bookstores

The California State Assembly has passed a bill that reeks with the stench of sulfur. AB 2943 continues California’s progressive march to stamp out Christianity and make the faith illegal within the state’s borders. California already has a law on the books that bans homosexual conversion therapy for children. That was the “inch” that progressives were given. AB 2943 is the “mile” that they intended to take all along.

The bill declares the practice of homosexual conversion therapy to be fraudulent in the state of California. Because of that declaration in the bill, the sale of any goods or services related to conversion therapy – for adults or children – will be effectively banned.

The permanent Democrat majority in the California Assembly hopes that Christians lack the reading comprehension necessary to realize that “goods” includes books, and “services” includes any ministry or bookstore that sells those goods.

The fact that there is virtually no opposition within California to a bill that would ban the sale of Christian books speaks to how much the church has retreated from public life in that state. Christian pastors were once burned at the stake for refusing to deny Christ.

Today, ministries in California are meeting behind closed doors to discuss how they can avoid discussing the sins of homosexuality, transgenderism and transvestitism (and taking videos that deal with the sin off of their websites).

This anti-Christian hostility comes as no surprise to anyone who pays attention to California. At a showing of the Marvel move “Avengers: Infinity War” over the weekend, a street preacher stood up after the ending credits and started to preach the Gospel. The crowd of Californians in the audience began a panicked stampede for the exits, jumping over railings and trampling each other. One woman gave herself a concussion as she ran into the wall, trying to escape words about Jesus.

If having a discussion with a homosexual, or even a confused child, about how to overcome sinful urges is completely outlawed in California, can the Bible itself be far behind?

After all, many passages in the Bible could cause a person to be uncomfortable with their sin. The Bible teaches us that sin can be overcome through trust and faith in Jesus Christ, after all. Murder, kidnapping, theft and other sins can be forgiven. Homosexuality, along with all other forms of adultery, can be forgiven.

Therefore, is the Bible not a “good” that could cause conversion therapy to take place? Instead of simply asking visitors at the California border checks if they are carrying any illegal fruits or vegetables, state agents may begin asking whether you have a Bible hidden in the trunk of your car.

Liberals in California would do well to remember the history of what its progressive forefathers did when their usefulness ran out. During the Bolshevik Revolution in 1917, all laws in Russia that criminalized homosexuality were overturned. Once the revolution was complete, Josef Stalin sent all the known homosexuals to the gulags, where many died in captivity.

Communist writers under Stalin declared homosexuality to be a symbol of capitalism and therefore, all practitioners were to be exterminated. Fidel Castro kept Cuban homosexuals penned in cages with blacks and mentally ill patients.

Contrast that ugly treatment by progressive communists with the desire of Christian ministries to simply have a conversation with a homosexual about sin. Unfortunately for the overly-enthusiastic gay lobby, those truths about liberal progressivism and its pogroms against homosexuals are not printed in any history textbook in California.

AB 2943 passed in the California Assembly and is now being “debated” in the Senate where it will soon be rubber-stamped. Governor Jerry “Moonbeam” Brown will likely sign it into law. The disingenuous politicians in California all claim that the bill will not ban Christian books or bookstores.

Things are about to get even uglier in California. Once Gov. Brown signs AB 2943 into law, what do you suppose the zealous state regulators are going to do with all those conversion therapy books and Christian bookstores? The likelihood of the books being loaded on trucks and hauled to the Nevada border to be preserved is very slim. The liberal media will go out of its way to ensure that it doesn’t take any video or pictures of the bonfires.

California needs the Gospel more now than at any time in its history. Before your church considers sending another missionary off to India, Peru or some other foreign land, consider the fact that there is a state right here in America that is growing darker every day.
