On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, thousands of Christians rejoiced in answered prayers for Carman Licciardello. The famous Christian singer and songwriter was diagnosed in 2013 with deadly myeloma cancer and miraculously declared cancer free in 2016. But a new tumor was discovered toward the end of Carman’s remission cycle, challenging his faith once again this year.
Carman reached out to fans and Christians alike and requested for ‘ninja prayer warriors’ to intercede for the tumor’s biopsy results following surgical removal on May 9. And once again God had the final say: The tumor’s results came back benign!
“Yes it was scary,” Carman shared on Facebook the day after the tumor’s findings. “Coming to the end of my estimated remission time, getting a tumor, needing surgery, the delays on the surgery day, waiting for the results. Lord, I think I got grey hair on my knuckles. But the results came back CANCER FREE!”
Carman will continue recording his latest CD album scheduled to release online in July and in stores September this year.
Down but Not Out
Known for “The Champion,” “Lazarus Come Forth,” “Great God,” and other hit titles, Carman’s remarkable musical talent has been well established as an American cultural phenomenon for generations. Doctors had pronounced that Carman would have only three to four years to live when they diagnosed him with myeloma, a plasma cell cancer, in February 2013.
“I’m going back after the devil. If he wants to come after me, I’m going after him,” Carman had stated, recalling his battle against cancer. “I’ve always had this concept of spiritual warfare. I am going to make a determination that if, in fact, I only have three good years, than I am going to make them count.”
And make them count he did. After three years of cancer treatments, doctor appointments, and thousands of prayers, Carman emerged victorious in 2016 with 100% cancer free results. “With God’s grace, coupled with your prayers and support, I won my war, and today I’m 100 percent cancer-free,” Carman testified that same year.
But Carman’s test of faith wasn’t over yet.
Just days before recording a song he wrote about his miraculous testimony of being healed from myeloma, the music star discovered a new tumor in the spring of 2017. The timing was uncannily near the end of Carman’s remission cycle, a key benchmark oncologists look for in the long-term success of cancer patients.
“After 40 years, I think I know a well-timed attack when I see one,” Carman shared through multiple Facebook posts at the time. “I’m about to go into the studio and start recording a song about my cancer healing testimony but I needed a routine check-up first. The doctor discovered, on my shoulder, a tumor the size of a golf ball. Now I need surgery to remove it for a biopsy.”
Doctors moved the date several times for his scheduled surgery appointment. Tensions grew. Fighting feelings of fear, worry, and weariness, Carman shared what he was experiencing with over 21,000 believers on Facebook and requested prayers for supernatural strength and unlimited faith for not only himself but for those he will minister to.
“…if I live, if the biopsy comes back cancer free and I can get back up on that stage, I promise you the devil will hate what I’m planning on doing. New souls will come into the kingdom. My testimony will inspire others fighting for their lives too and a new song will be in singing in someone’s heart.”
Living in Victory
That declaration came to pass on May 17 when thousands of Christians sang a new song of praise to God for Carman’s benign tumor results. Today the beloved Christian music artist is back working on his latest album ‘Legacy.’
Carman continues to hold the record for the largest attendance of a Christian concert in history when over 80,000 people attended his live event in 1994 at Texas Stadium. For the last two years alone he lead over 5,000 people to Christ when he battled cancer during his “No Plan B” music tour, and thanks to God’s miraculous work, he’s not stopping anytime soon.
