Christian Mom’s Twitter Account Suspended After Condemning Teen Vogue Article

Teen Vogue magazine, a sister publication to Vogue geared toward teenage girls, drew plenty of criticism recently after publishing an article titled, “Anal Sex: What You Need to Know” in its July 2017 edition. Gigi Engle, self-proclaimed sex educator and feminist activist, authored the article that she describes as “anal 101, for teens, beginners and all inquisitive folk.” Teen Vogue states the article is, “the lowdown on everything you need to know about butt stuff, no matter who you are, whom you’re having sex with, or who you want to have sex with.”

One of the loudest voices condemning the article was that of pro-family activist, Elizabeth Johnston, more popularly known on social media as the “Activist Mommy.” Johnston took to her Twitter account to alert other parents about the article and to express her disapproval, which she did by posting a video of herself burning the magazine. Her caption read, “Mom Burns Teen Vogue Magazine Over Tutorial on Anal Sex” along with the hashtag, #PULLTEENVOGUE.

In the video, Johnston says, “They are teaching children 11 through 17 – that’s the target audience of this magazine Teen Vogue – how to be safely sodomized.” She also implored parents to go to places that sold the magazine and ask the owners to remove the magazine from their shelves. She goes on to say, “These editors’ brains are in the gutter, now let’s put their sales in the gutter where they belong.”

The video garnered over 10 million views.

After continuing to tweet about the article and getting into an online kerfuffle with Teen Vogues’s digital editor, Phillip Picardi, Johnston was commanded to remove two of her tweets, one of which read:

“Congrats Phillip! A sodomite mag just awarded you for teaching kids sodomy. Way to recruit there @TheAdvocateMag! #PullTeenVogue @pfpicardi”

Johnston was referring to a magazine called The Advocate, which is the oldest and largest homosexual publication in the country. They had just included Picardi as one of their “50 Most Influential LGBTQ People in Media.”

The other banned tweet stated:

“@TheAdvocateMag just looooves that @pfpicardi recruits teens to sodomize each other [&] join the ranks of their LGBT readers! Perfect union.”

Twitter demanded that she remove both Tweets and that if she didn’t, her account would be locked. Twitter stated that her tweets violated some of its rules, including “harassing or threatening other users” and “violating our other rules.”

Johnston defended her posts stating, “Of course, actual videos of children being abused can be found on Twitter. But calling out an editor for promoting teen sodomy is worth a suspension?”

The only way for her account to be restored was to remove the tweets, so she felt she had no other alternative but to comply with Twitter’s demands.

Johnston wasn’t the only one who took to Twitter to complain about the article, though. Other parents had also tweeted their concerns:

“If u text the content of this article to a 12 yrs old girl, you’d lose ur job and probably be prosecuted.”

“Fifth grade science teaches the different body systems. Yet grown people still confuse sexual organs with non sexual organs.”

“Absolutely disgusting and uncalled for in a teen magazine. There is a time and a place to learn things and this is not it.”

Picardi responded to the concerned parents by posting a picture on Twitter of him kissing a man and holding up his middle finger, complete with rainbow colored fingernail polish.

In a separate tweet he stated, “To a growing population. Gen Z will be our queerest and most fearless generation yet.” He went on to say that he felt it’s important for teenagers to get sex education, which is something that the story does. He also believes the backlash against the anal sex article is rooted in homophobia.

In response to Picardi’s claims, Johnston says, “This has nothing to do with homophobia. This is about parents protecting their children from perversion.”

Picardi was never commanded to remove any of his Tweets nor was his account ever suspended.

Besides the suspension of her “Activist Mommy” Twitter account, Johnston has also been censored on Facebook and YouTube will not allow her video commentaries to be monetized. Despite her unfair treatment by social media, she continues to stand boldly for her pro-family views. The “Activist Mommy” feels Christians and social conservatives need to be brave and use social media platforms to discuss what they believe. She also feels it’s important to “expose the liberals’ bias.”
