LGBT advocates are expressing disappointment that President Trump has yet to issue a proclamation that declares June as “LGBT Pride Month.” While they are disappointed, they should hardly be surprised, since no Republican president has ever made such a proclamation. Trump’s predecessor on the other hand, issued a Pride Month proclamation each year he served as president.
Elaine Donnelly, president of the Center for Military Readiness says, “The president deserves praise for not issuing a presidential proclamation, which is a great honor, for what amounts to a special-interest, activist faction. They have gotten used to having special privileges in the Obama administration. But President Trump has not gone along with that – and we are very grateful.”
President Clinton was the first President to ever acknowledge June as “Gay & Lesbian Pride Month.” President Obama added to it to include bisexuals and transgenders, thus becoming “LGBT Pride Month.”
Despite the lack of proclamation by President Trump that celebrates gay pride, military installations are still moving forward with their own plans to host events celebrating the LGBT Community.
The president of the American Military Partner Association, Ashley Broadway-Mack, has expressed extreme disappointment that the current president has not followed the tradition of issuing a Pride Month Proclamation. She says that with the lack of recognition by the government LGBT groups should be, “determined more than ever to celebrate our pride in service to our country. After decades of discrimination, today, LGBT service members proudly serve our nation openly – many with spouses and families proudly standing by their side.”
Matt Barber, a constitutional attorney, hopes that the president won’t cave to LGBT advocates and that he will not issue a proclamation. Barber has said that he would much rather see the White House lit up in the color blue to show support for law enforcement, rather than the colors of the rainbow celebrating LGBT Month.
Barber sharply criticizes the State Department and other agencies under the charge of the President who still support the homosexual agenda by hosting LGBT events at the White House.
“This LGBT nonsense has been so marbled through and ingrained in the deep state with so many Obama-appointed and -hired officials still within high positions of power within the federal government and we’re still seeing … the aftershocks of the Obama administration,” says Barber.
While President Trump has been silent on the issue, his daughter Ivanka has not, much to the chagrin of conservatives and leaders of the Orthodox Jewish faith – a religion that Ivanka converted to upon marrying her husband, Jared Kushner.
On the first day of June, Ivanka tweeted, “Logging back on after Shavuot, wishing everyone a joyful #Pride2017. This month we celebrate and honor the #LGBTQcommunity.”
In another tweet, she posted, “I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy.”
The first tweet drew anger and disbelief from a fellow Orthodox Jew who said it was “massively offensive” for Ivanka to give homage to homosexual pride while at the same time mentioning Shavuot, a Jewish festival that is celebrated in remembrance of God giving the gift of the Torah to His people.
The Torah consists of the laws of God that were revealed to Moses and makes up the first five books of the Bible. Included in the Torah is the passage from Leviticus 20:13 which states, “If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them has done what is detestable.”
Linda Harvey, founder and president of a ministry called Mission America, has stated that mentioning Shavuot and the LGBTQ community in the same tweet is sending a very mixed message that insults people of faith who genuinely love and honor their Creator.
“The good news is that Donald Trump is officially not celebrating homosexual and transgender ‘pride.’ At least the president did not cave in,” says Harvey.
The LGBT community is not buying Ivanka’s support and instead of appreciating her efforts, they are outraged. Gossip blogger Perez Hilton fired back with his own tweet, “Who is this ‘we’ you talk about? Because your father isn’t celebrating us – that’s for damn sure!!”
Ironically, many in the LGBT community won’t be celebrating either. Instead of holding the traditional Gay Pride parades, many event planners are turning the celebratory parades into politically-charged anti-Trump “resistant marches.”
