It’s difficult if not impossible to find balance when it comes to talking about immigration in America today. Between the mainstream media, political elites and lying liberal pastors who tell us that open borders are inevitable, moral and necessary, it’s difficult to find any solid and truthful information.
One thing that is certain for us as Christians, however, is that God’s Word has provided all the answers for us – so long as we are courageous enough to look for those answers and apply them.
Nathan shares a parable with King David in 2 Samuel 12:1-12 which shares a striking resemblance to the current immigration debate. There is an exceedingly rich man in the city, with large flocks and herds. There is also a poor man who has but one precious ewe in his family’s possession. Verse 4 tells us, “And a traveler (“stranger” or immigrant) came to the rich man, who refused to take from his own flock and from his own herd to prepare one for the wayfaring man who had come to him; but he took the poor man’s lamb and prepared it for the man who had come to him.”
David is rightly enraged by this boldfaced theft and declares the rich man worthy of the death penalty. King David of course was initially blind to the parable, which was condemning him for murdering a man and stealing his wife – but the parallels to our current immigration problem are striking.
The politicians calling for open borders do not want to pay the price for having an influx of foreigners into their communities. They want you and your family to pay the price. Indeed, most people who proclaim an affinity for aliens – both legal and illegal – do not have to live with the consequences of mass immigration.
Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s home in Pacific Heights is miles away (and upwind) from the feces-ridden slums of San Francisco where thousands of illegal aliens are camped out and victimizing the horrified tourists.
Paul Ryan caught tremendous flak in 2016 for constructing a wall around his own property in Wisconsin, while refusing to support President Trump’s call for a wall on America’s southern border.
Everywhere we look in America today, our “poor men” are being asked to give up their ewes to support immigrants, as if theft is somehow a moral imperative. Illegal aliens are provided a college education in America. Slots at universities are limited, so in many cases, an American loses an opportunity to go to the school of their choice to make way for a foreigner.
Dozens of hospitals have been bankrupted in California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Illegal aliens arrive to give birth to their anchor babies and disappear without paying their bills. “Free” health care for aliens, while Americans watch in stunned amazement as our access to health care slips further away every time a hospital closes its doors for the last time.
As Americans struggled to put food on the table during the “Obama economy,” the Obama administration worked hand-in-hand with the Mexican government to sign illegal aliens up for food stamps. The US Department of Agriculture under Obama’s leadership wrote to the Mexican embassy – in Spanish – “You need not divulge information regarding your immigration status in seeking this benefit for your children.”
Following that message, the federal budget for food stamps ballooned from $37.6 billion during Obama’s first year in office to $78.4 billion in 2012. Americans weren’t gobbling up the food stamp budget. Mexicans were, at the express invite of the Obama administration, which reassured them that they wouldn’t be caught and deported for defrauding the American taxpayers.
Wait a minute! Aren’t we supposed to care for the poor as Christians?
Yes, absolutely! In their own countries!
Jesus told us to go out into the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He didn’t tell us to invite every pagan in the world into our own homes, so they could steal our food, health care and jobs while committing murder-by-drunk-driving and raping an average of 12,000 American children annually. We are supposed to go to them, not the other way around.
Sharing the gospel with other countries is the surest way to lift them out of spiritual and economic poverty – so they won’t have to move into your neighborhood. King David would have built a wall to protect Israel if he needed to – and he’d have made the open borders elitists pay for it out of their own pockets for the crime of robbing the locals.
