Lena Dunham’s Shocking Abortion Confession

Lena Dunham, the creator, star and writer of the HBO show Girls, seems as determined as ever to stay in the news, even though her 15 minutes of fame are nearly over (we can hope!) as her series is having its last season in 2017.

Recently, on her podcast, Dunham was relating a story of a young woman who had talked to her at a Texas location of Planned Parenthood about abortion. The young woman wanted to find out if Dunham wanted to share her own story of abortion and may have been aghast when Dunham admitted that she had never had one.

Dunham realized that as someone who’s strongly pro-choice, she nevertheless harbors prejudices that she herself is supposedly fighting against. Dunham then confessed that in order to better identify with users of Planned Parenthood’s services, she wished she had actually had an abortion, a statement that was probably the cue for much eye-rolling around the country.

In fact, numerous media commentators condemned her statement, and she was forced to put her foot in her mouth for the umpteenth time (previous Dunham controversies have centered around her sexual assault during her college years, the casual racism of her show and whether Dunham actually has anything of interest or originality to say with her material).

Watch as Youtube host Philip Defranco deconstructs the events and pretty much nails what most people around the country were thinking when they heard this story.
