Powerful prayer is taking place right now at the White House. Recent news reports reveal that Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary Ben Carson, and other members of President Trump’s Cabinet have engaged in weekly prayer meetings that include in-depth Bible study and fellowship. Led by Capitol Ministries founder and former NBA player Ralph Drollinger, the prayer sessions have been in the works since President Trump’s transition to the White House.
Other members who frequent the prayer meetings include CIA Director Mike Pompeo, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, and Secretaries Sonny Perdue, Betsy DeVos, Rick Perry, and Tom Price. The prayer meetings are designed with hectic presidential schedules in mind, and the leaders of the prayer meetings say that President Donald Trump is welcome to join.
“In terms of a country’s health and direction, when its leaders are seeking God, the nation is in a position to be blessed by God in ways that are ‘far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think,'” Drollinger states to CBN News Beltway Buzz in reference to Ephesians 3:20.
Reverend Franklin Graham, along with many other believers, is thrilled with the news. “It’s very encouraging to know that members of the president’s cabinet gather weekly for prayer,” Graham stated on his Facebook page.
A Legacy of Prayerful Leadership
The President’s cabinet members aren’t the only ones praying at the White House. Capitol Ministries hosts weekly prayer meetings for the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate, too. Drollinger teaches the Bible study sessions for the Senators on Tuesday mornings and for the House every week after concluding their ‘first votes back.’
During the meetings, attendants dutifully study the Scriptures and apply the biblical instruction they have learned in every aspect of their lives, including the conduct of their governmental positions. “This has been a wonderful time of prayer and fellowship, as I am presently teaching through the Sermon on the Mount, as well has handing out my weekly written Bible study as a homework assignment on a particular topic,” Drollinger says.
Capitol Ministries is focused on delivering the Good News and cultivating Christian believers in governmental institutions everywhere from the state to the federal and global levels. Since initiating Bible studies at the White House, they have begun outreach in several State and international capitals, and it looks like they aren’t stopping anytime soon.
A number of government officials, including former U.S. House Rep. Michelle Bachman, are strong supporters of the ministry. “This is a strategic moment in our nation’s history,” states Bachman regarding Capitol Ministries. “What we desperately need is a substantive ministry on the Hill… Prior to [Capitol Ministries’] arrival, there was little in the way of ministry that was intent on expositing God’s Word and making disciples amongst the members of both Houses.” Bachman is a current member of President Trump’s Faith Advisory Committee.
“One Nation Under God…”
From President Trump’s Inauguration, to the National Prayer Breakfast, to Capitol Ministries’ weekly prayer sessions, it seems the White House is surrounded by more prayer than ever before. There is no doubt that God is at work in Washington, D.C. “I think God intervened and put his hand on Donald Trump for some reason,” Graham had stated in a previous interview with Fox Business Network. “It’s obvious that there was something behind this, and it was more than people understand. I just think it was God.”
President Donald Trump himself has consistently made faith-filled statements that agree with God’s Word since his journey on the campaign trail. “For us here in Washington, we must never, ever stop asking God for the wisdom to serve the public according to his will,” Trump remarked in February during the National Prayer Breakfast.
“That’s why President Eisenhower and Senator Carlson had the wisdom to gather together 64 years ago to begin this truly great tradition. But that’s not all they did together. Let me tell you the rest of the story. Just one year later, Senator Carlson was among the members of Congress to send to the President’s desk a joint resolution that added “under God” to our Pledge of Allegiance. That’s a great thing. Because that’s what we are and that is what we will always be, and that is what our people want: one beautiful nation, under God.”
