One of President-Elect Donald Trump’s most ardent supporters, Rudy Giuliani, the former mayor of New York City, has taken himself out of the running for a cabinet position in Trump’s administration. During Trump’s campaign, Giuliani never wavered in his support for the GOP nominee and even became a Trump surrogate on some talk shows and in news interviews.
The Republican former mayor is internationally famous for taking command following the 9/11 terror attacks and keeping his cool while the debris of the twin towers literally swirled around him. After his two terms as mayor, Giuliani wrote a book called Leadership and founded Giuliani Partners, a global security consulting firm.
In 2008, Giuliani announced his candidacy for president but withdrew from the race in the primary season and supported the eventual nominee, Senator John McCain of Arizona. Giuliani was considered a contender for governor of New York in 2010 and again for the presidency in 2012, but declined to run in both races, instead focusing on his business career.
He’s been friends with Trump for decades and was a noted early supporter of Trump’s candidacy in 2016. Along with New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, Giuliani was one of the best-known New York political figures to endorse Trump.
