Teen Takes His Mom to Prom Because She Missed Her Own

Prom night is commonly viewed as a time when young people focus on inviting the most popular date they can get their hands on. It’s a time when young people and parents alike spend hundreds of dollars on dresses, professional hair stylists and even limos in an attempt to show the world how cool they are.

However, one young man in Corpus Christi recently turned heads across the nation when he invited someone he truly loves in spite of the fact that he risked becoming the butt of cruel jokes in his school and even community.

Joe Moreno knew he wanted to invite his mom to his prom as soon as he knew what a prom was. As he recently explained, his mother gave birth to him when she was only 17 and then dropped out of high school in order to care for him so she was never able to attend a prom on her own.

From a young age, Joe understood and appreciated the many sacrifices she made to give him and his two younger brothers a good upbringing and promised his mother that he would take her as his date to the high school prom.

However, when the big day arrived and Joe formally invited his mother as his high school prom date, she was surprised and tried to persuade him to take someone his own age. His mother, Vanessa Moreno, worried that Joe would miss out by skipping a traditional prom experience and not inviting someone his own age. However, Joe insisted that there was no-one else that he wanted to take to his prom; his heart was set on having his mom as his date for this special night out.

What is more, Joe went the extra mile to make sure that everything worked out smoothly. He spoke with his high school and got special permission to bring his mom as most educational institutions do not allow young people to bring dates over a certain age. Upon receiving permission, he took his mom shopping and got her a gorgeous prom dress and a corsage. He picked her up and walked arm in arm with her as any young man would do with a woman he was dating. They danced the night away and took an abundance of both formal and goofy photos.

The reaction to Joe’s unusual date idea was overwhelmingly positive. The school faculty was touched by the gesture and most of his peers thought it was a great idea. What is more, the prom photos have gone viral online and elicited nothing but praise from those whose hearts are warmed by seeing the love and consideration that this young man has for his mom. Many also made positive comments about his mother’s appearance, noting that Vanessa Moreno looks young enough to pass for a high school date.

At the same time, Joe has made it clear that his mom wasn’t the only one who appreciated the evening and had a wonderful time. He had a blast as well and says that he has absolutely no regrets that he chose to bypass a conventional date and take his mother to the prom instead. What is more, he hopes that his two younger brothers will one day follow in his footsteps. The memories the two of them made that night is sure to last a lifetime and inspire many others to follow in his footsteps.

The overwhelming quantity of bad and frivolous news that floods the airwaves every single day makes it easy for forget that there are kind, tender-hearted people who care about their loved ones, family and community. Whenever we become surrounded and overwhelmed by bad news it’s important to remember that God’s love is real, alive and present on earth and is manifested continually by His many children who do what they can in small and large ways to bring His spirit into their communities.

The story of Joe’s outgoing love for his mother is sure to touch hearts both now and for the foreseeable future. Perhaps the best part of the story is not just the fact that both him and his mom had a great time together but also that his selfless act has been shared online hundreds of thousands of times, inspiring young and old alike to follow in his footsteps and do what they can to show appreciation to those they love.

Furthermore, the fact that the story is coming out so close to Mother’s Day should inspire everyone to show their appreciation for the many sacrifices a mother makes to support her family, providing her children with the love and care they need to become happy, well-adjusted adults.
