As conservative commentator Gavin McInnes points out in this clip, athletic shoes these days have come a long way from how they used to appear even just 10 years ago. In the early 2000s, you could count on shoes for men to be very masculine, basic and uniformly constructed so that they would be easily identified as athletic shoes. But those were a far cry from today’s shoes, which come in a rainbow of colors and constructions that are virtually alien when compared to their predecessors.
Today, major-name athletes such as Golden State Warriors basketball player Draymond Green and Arizona Cardinals football safety Tyrann Mathieu sport metallic gold shoes emblazoned with messages such as “Sideline Racism!” in an effort to publicize their opinions on social justice issues.
So what’s the problem? Perhaps what these star players haven’t considered is who’s actually changing their behavior based on what their shoes’ messages say. No one.
This is just another example of celebrity athletes losing touch with the real world and getting sucked into the artificial microcosm of endorsements and political correctness, neither of which actually has much impact on society beyond earning a few large companies some extra dollars.
Instead of taking significant actions themselves to combat racism, many of these players think they can eliminate it simply by wearing a shoe stamped with a few words. Watch as McInnes takes viewers on a mini-tour of a shoe store and shows off numerous examples of today’s modern footwear.
